Freje Randall: Shining on Stages Around the World

Freje Randall is a non-traditional ballerina dancer whose talents have taken her across the globe.

A spring 2025 honors graduate of Texas Southern University’s College of Education and current graduate student, Freje shined under the lights of New York City during New York Fashion Week. She was the opening performer for the Actively Black for its historic runway show.

“Being able to be a part of that was amazing, as an African American dancer that doesn’t have a traditional body type. It was amazing to open up for the show,” Randall said.

Freje proudly represented her alma mater throughout the process.

“I was ‘tigered down. I made sure everybody knew I was a part of a completely different school than where everybody else was at,” she said. “Being at TSU just reminds me of the importance of culture and being around your people.”

Her talent and work ethic has led her to work alongside top artists. She’s performed at the Grammys with Lizzo. She’s also performed with fellow Houston-native Debbie Allen and revered ballerina, Lauren Anderson. She was also part of Nike’s JD Sports campaign.

“It’s humbling because we look at famous people a certain way but when they see somebody like myself doing something that’s not normal like dancing on your toes, they look at you the same way.”

Freje’s journey from the classroom to the international stage has been marked by excellence. As an undergraduate student at Texas Southern, she was named to the President’s and Dean’s lists. She became a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. She continues to give back as a Dancing4Diabetes Ambassador while pursuing her graduate degree focused on dance, health, and leadership.
