Texas Southern University Advances Searches for Director of Athletics and Head Men’s Basketball Coach

Texas Southern University President J. W. Crawford III has identified the candidates he intends to recommend to the Texas Southern University Board of Regents for the positions of Director of Athletics and Head Men’s Basketball Coach.

The recommendations will be presented to the Board of Regents for consideration during its meeting on August 28, 2026. In accordance with University governance procedures, the Board will consider the President’s recommendations for both positions.

“The searches for these two critical leadership positions have been thorough and deliberate,” said President Crawford. “We appreciate the dedication and hard work of our search committees and the many individuals who contributed to this process. I look forward to presenting my recommendations to the Board of Regents later this month.”

No additional information regarding the candidates will be released until the Board has completed its consideration.

The Honorable Judge Caroline Baker Hurley serves as Chairperson of the Athletics Committee of the Texas Southern University Board of Regents. The full Board of Regents will consider the President’s recommendations during its August 28 meeting.
