School of Communication Alumnus Randall Newsome Returns Home to Houston as FOX 26 Weekend Anchor
Texas Southern University School of Communication alumnus Randall Newsome (’12) is bringing his broadcast journalism career full circle with a return to his hometown of Houston, where he will join FOX 26 as a weekend anchor and reporter.
Newsome most recently served as a morning anchor and reporter for WMAR-2 News’ Good Morning Maryland in Baltimore, where he spent nearly four years delivering news and connecting with viewers throughout the region. His move to FOX 26 marks an exciting new chapter in a career that has taken him across the country and back to the city where his journey began.
A 2012 graduate of Texas Southern University’s School of Communication and Thomas F. Freeman Honors College Scholar, Newsome first developed his passion for journalism on the TSU campus. He went on to earn a master’s degree from the University of Southern California before launching his professional broadcast career in Monroe, Louisiana.
In 2018, Newsome moved to Indianapolis to join WISH-TV as a reporter. During his time there, he became a familiar face on All Indiana, an infotainment program highlighting positive stories and community happenings throughout central Indiana. The experience allowed him to further develop his skills as an anchor and host while deepening his commitment to community-centered storytelling.
His professional journey continued in Baltimore, where he expanded his experience as a morning anchor and reporter before accepting his new role in Houston.
In addition to his academic accomplishments, Newsome was a student-athlete at Texas Southern and a member of the university’s Delta Theta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
As he returns to Houston to join FOX 26, Newsome represents the impact of a Texas Southern education and the professional journeys made possible by the university’s School of Communication.
