Texas Southern University Celebrates 547 Students at Third Annual Tiger Stripes Celebration

Texas Southern University recognized 547 students during its third annual Tiger Stripes Celebration, honoring members of the Fall 2025 cohort who successfully completed their first 30 credit hours toward graduation.
The milestone represents 39 percent of the Fall 2025 first-time freshman class and marks an important step in Texas Southern University’s commitment to student success and degree completion.
Held on Oct. 21, the Tiger Stripes Celebration recognizes students who have reached a key academic benchmark on their journey toward earning a college degree. The annual event serves as both a celebration of achievement and a reminder of the persistence, dedication, and discipline required to remain on track for graduation.
Students who earned their Tiger Stripes received a Certificate of Achievement and a personalized Texas Southern University backpack, symbolizing the progress they have made and the road ahead as they continue their academic careers.
This year’s honorees surpassed last year’s total, when 355 students from the Fall 2024 cohort earned their Tiger Stripes. The increase reflects continued efforts by the university to support student retention, academic success, and timely degree completion.
The Tiger Stripes initiative highlights a significant moment in the student experience. Completing the first 30 credit hours places students on a strong path toward graduation and reinforces Texas Southern University’s focus on empowering students to achieve their educational goals.
The event brought together students, faculty, staff, and university leaders to recognize academic achievement and encourage continued excellence. As Texas Southern University approaches its centennial celebration, programs like Tiger Stripes underscore the institution’s commitment to fostering student success and preparing future leaders.
“Students only earn their Tiger Stripes once,” organizers noted. “It’s a milestone worth celebrating because it represents the hard work and determination required to make meaningful progress toward a degree.”
For the 547 students honored this year, earning their Tiger Stripes is more than a recognition of completed coursework. It is evidence that they are building momentum toward graduation and creating a foundation for future success.
