Texas Southern University Bolsters Commitment to Transfer Students

Texas Southern University hosted the annual The Yard Experience event on Saturday, November 1, in collaboration with the Texas Southern University National Alumni Association. This year’s event included a group of students from St. Phillips College in San Antonio.

“The presence of the students from St. Philips speaks to Texas Southern’s commitment to creating an experience for transfer students that ensures they are welcomed and included in every aspect of campus life,” said Dr. Brian Armstrong.

“We see young scholars transfer to Texas Southern from community colleges and four-year colleges, alike, who walk onto campus with a determination to make the most of their time at Texas Southern. Likewise, we have staff dedicated to ensuring they complete their degree on time and experience all Texas Southern has to offer in the process.”

The University maintains articulation agreements with dozens of community college and four-year institutions to create a seamless process for transfer students. Through these agreements, Texas Southern develops programs designed to enhance the education experience and facilitate the admission of qualified students enrolled in the partner institution who complete their associate’s degree, or other required coursework, into Texas Southern. These agreements maximize the amount of coursework credits that can be applied to the bachelor’s degree from Texas Southern.

There are agreements in place with all eight Houston-area community colleges, including general admissions and program-specific. Additionally, the University works with Alamo Colleges, Tarrant County College District, Dallas County Community College District, Tyler Junior College, and several other two-year colleges in Texas.

The effort to create a seamless transfer process extends to the California Community College System, the Colorado Community College System, Wiley University, and more.
