Texas Southern University Names Dr. Juan M. Alexander Sr. as Vice President for Strategic Enrollment Services

Texas Southern University has appointed Dr. Juan M. Alexander Sr. as Vice President for Strategic Enrollment Services, a critical leadership position that will guide the University’s enrollment planning and student success strategies. Alexander brings nearly two decades of experience leading student success, enrollment outcomes, and institutional transformation at Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

He comes to Texas Southern from Florida A&M University, where he served as Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management, leading initiatives that produced record admissions application growth while maintaining the University’s academic profile and admissions standards.

In his role at Florida A&M, Dr. Alexander also spearheaded process improvement efforts that enhanced operational efficiency and strengthened the student experience.

“Texas Southern has a rich history and is on an upward trajectory that I’m excited to now be a part of,” Dr. Alexander said. “I look forward to developing the team and the strategies that will build upon the work that’s been done to recruit the outstanding students who call Texas Southern home today.”

As vice president, he will be the chief enrollment strategist for developing and executing a comprehensive, data-informed enrollment approaches aligned with Texas Southern’s mission and long-term goals. He will oversee all enrollment management functions, including admissions operations, financial aid, recruitment, strategic enrollment marketing, and retention initiatives.

“Every university along Dr. Alexander’s journey is better today because he was there,” said Chief Administration Officer and Senior Vice President Dr. Rodney Smith. “We are confident that Texas Southern will reach its immediate and long-term enrollment goals under his leadership.”

Dr. Alexander has also served in leadership roles at Old Dominion University, Alabama A&M University, and Norfolk State University, where he earned wide recognition for his data-driven leadership, innovation, and commitment to student success.

Dr. Alexander holds a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications and a Master of Education from Norfolk State University. He also earned his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Creighton University.

His first day was July 19.
