Houston’s First School of Communication marks 50 years of excellence

Houston, Texas – Texas Southern University’s School of Communication (SOC) proudly announces its 50th Anniversary Jubilee and Fundraising Kick-off Celebration scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 16, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The celebratory event will be held at the iconic University Museum on the TSU campus during Homecoming Week, honoring a half-century of groundbreaking contributions in education, media, film, journalism, radio, entertainment, communication, and innovation.

Supporters are encouraged to donate to the School of Communication to help advance its mission of academic excellence and innovation. Contributions will directly enhance student success and retention, faculty development, and the creation of forward-thinking programs. Funds will also support scholarships, upgrades to media labs, and experiential learning opportunities that prepare students to enter the workforce ready to lead, create, and inspire.

For half a century, the School of Communication has been a leader in shaping dynamic professionals who have made their mark in industries from Texas to the world.

The SOC remains dedicated to preparing the next generation of communicators who are equipped to lead, innovate, and make a meaningful impact in media and society. This milestone event will pay homage to its students, alumni, professors, and supporters, who have been with them on this incredible journey.
