Beyoncé has officially become a Primetime Emmy Award winner. The Television Academy announced on Aug. 12 that she earned the honor for Beyoncé Bowl, her Netflix special, in the category of Outstanding Costumes for Variety, Nonfiction or Reality Programming.

The award recognizes Beyoncé and her creative team for their work on the high-profile halftime show, performed during Netflix’s first-ever NFL Christmas Gameday at NRG Stadium in Houston.

This marks Beyoncé’s first Primetime Emmy win, adding to her record-breaking 35 Grammy Awards and an Oscar nomination in 2022 for “Be Alive” from King Richard. She remains in the running for two more awards for Beyoncé Bowl: Outstanding Variety Special (Live) as performer and executive producer, and Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special alongside Alex Rudzinski.

The juried category win will be formally presented at the 77th Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Sept. 6 and 7 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, with a televised presentation airing Sept. 13 on FXX.

Beyoncé’s Houston ties were also front and center earlier this year when Texas Southern University played a starring role in her Cowboy Carter Tour stop in the city. The televised concert, Beyoncé: Cowboy Carter – Live from Houston, earned four Emmy nominations: Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded), Outstanding Production Design, Outstanding Sound Mixing, and Outstanding Music Direction.

Texas Southern’s renowned “Ocean of Soul” marching band joined Beyoncé live on stage, delivering a dynamic performance that celebrated Houston’s cultural roots and HBCU pride. The collaboration also extended offstage, with TSU administrators and band members hosted in the BeyGOOD suite. Through her BeyGOOD Foundation’s Pursue Change initiative, Beyoncé awarded the band department a $100,000 grant to support scholarships, recruitment, retention, and upgrades to infrastructure and technology.

As Beyoncé’s performances continue to receive national recognition, Texas Southern University’s contributions stand as a proud testament to the power of combining talent, culture, and community impact — all while keeping Houston in the global spotlight.
