Texas Southern’s Ocean of Soul Set to Perform at 2025 Pepsi National Battle of the Bands

Texas Southern University’s renowned marching band, the Ocean of Soul, has been confirmed as one of eight elite Historically Black College and University (HBCU) bands scheduled to perform at the 2025 Pepsi National Battle of the Bands, part of a weekend of culture, music, and community in Houston. The event takes place August 22–24 at NRG Stadium, with the main performance on Saturday, August 23, 2025. 

Presented by Pepsi and produced by Webber Marketing, this high-profile event celebrates musical talent and HBCU heritage. The weekend officially begins with the Emerging Experience Entrepreneur Conference on Friday, August 22. On Saturday, August 23, bands will take the field for performances and a community outreach initiative under NBOTB Cares.

• Florida A&M University – Marching 100
• Jackson State University – Sonic Boom of the South
• Langston University – Marching Pride Band
• North Carolina A&T – Blue and Gold Marching Machine
• Prairie View A&M – Marching Storm
• Texas Southern University – Ocean of Soul 

Now in its 11th year, the NBOTB honors the legacy of HBCU marching bands across the nation. The event has awarded nearly $1.7 million in scholarships to date, showcasing ensembles through performances, stroll-offs, and cultural showcases throughout the weekend.
