Texas Southern University Shines in Beyoncé’s Emmy-Nominated “Cowboy Carter” Tour Performance

Texas Southern University proudly made its mark on pop culture history during Beyoncé’s unforgettable Cowboy Carter Tour stop in Houston — a performance that has now earned four Emmy nominations. The televised concert event, part of ABC’s Beyoncé: Cowboy Carter – Live from Houston, is nominated for Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded), Outstanding Production Design, Outstanding Sound Mixing, and Outstanding Music Direction.

At the heart of the performance was TSU’s very own “Ocean of Soul” marching band, who joined Queen Bey live onstage, delivering an electrifying display of musical talent, precision, and pride that brought HBCU culture into the global spotlight. Their participation not only celebrated Houston’s rich cultural roots but also underscored the university’s longstanding commitment to artistic excellence and community leadership.

Texas Southern University administrators and band members were also hosted in the exclusive BeyGOOD suite, highlighting the deepening partnership between TSU and Beyoncé’s philanthropic foundation. As part of BeyGOOD’s Pursue Change initiative, TSU’s band department received a $100,000 grant to support scholarships, strengthen recruitment and retention efforts, and fund critical infrastructure and technology upgrades. These investments directly contribute to the continued success of the “Ocean of Soul” and enrich the student experience at TSU.
