Texas Southern University Completes Key Audit Milestones in First 25 Days of Operation Tiger Reset
Twenty-five days into Operation Tiger Reset, Texas Southern University has strengthened financial oversight, added experienced administrative leadership, and accelerated corrective actions designed to increase precision, accountability and timeliness across the institution.
Approved by the Board of Regents in December, Operation Tiger Reset is a fast-paced, 100-day initiative to drive rapid execution of the University’s audit response plan, strengthening procedures, processes, and validation measures. The initiative implements the recommendations of the State Auditor’s report and accelerates operational effectiveness in alignment with the University’s strategic plan under the leadership of President J.W. Crawford III.
Major milestones achieved in the first 25 days include:
- Onboarded new Internal Audit expertise to increase workflow integration and quality of performance oversight.
- Onboarded an Interim Chief Administration Officer and an Interim Chief Human Resources Officer. Executive searches are underway to identify and hire permanent personnel for these critical positions by May.
- Completed review of 100% of the University’s Administrative Policies and Procedures.
- Completed Phase I of Asset Management review (85% of capital assets completed). Phase II begins in March to complete review of the remaining capital and controlled assets.
- Implemented search for a permanent Chief Financial Officer.
- Implemented executive search for a Chief Internal Auditor to further increase effectiveness of internal controls.
“These actions reflect speed, discipline, and accountability,” said Crawford. “We are focused on results, not actions.”
The newly engaged Internal Auditor will provide ongoing confirmation of the effectiveness of tightened financial and procurement processes and assess corrective actions aligned with the audit findings.
Regent Lauren Gore, Chair of the Audit Response Committee, said the early progress demonstrates measurable momentum.
“The Board expects clear outcomes, and we are seeing forward movement,” Gore said. “Leadership has moved quickly to add expertise, validate assets, and reinforce governance standards. That work will continue with urgency and discipline.”
University officials noted new executive team members have already enhanced operational performance and strengthened verification systems.
“Restoring and reinforcing public confidence requires measurable action,” Crawford said. “We are delivering that action.”
Operation Tiger Reset will continue through Day 100, with additional milestone updates planned.
