Texas Southern University Becomes The First HBCU to Partner with Chartwells Higher Education

Combining tradition with innovation, the new Tiger Dining program at TSU is embracing rich heritage and engaging in community.
Texas Southern University (TSU) is thrilled to announce its new partnership with Chartwells Higher Education as the school’s dining services provider. Launching this Fall 2025 semester, Chartwells has worked with Texas Southern to energize the dining experience across its residential, catering, and retail spaces. There will also be renewed focus on the experience for students, staff and faculty as the heart of the campus; providing community, convenience, and campus pride with exceptional food and service.
Re-imagined Retail:
- Maroon Market was built with convenience in mind, providing on-the-go snacks and daily necessities students are looking for.
- Tiger Social offers a laid-back social space with a variety of games, activities, and casual eats.
- Legacy Brews draws from the music and culture of the local community, giving space to engage in a rich, comfortable atmosphere.
- Blends & Bowls serves students wanting fresh and functional refreshment to fuel their day.
- Kitchen 1927 is our new faculty and staff dining space serving home-style, elevated meals and paying homage to TSU’s founding and history.
Residential Revamps
- Rooted is TSU’s first ever vegan station, embracing Plant-Forward dining and providing more inclusive menu options for students with specific dietary needs or preferences.
- DIY Stations bring excitement and customization to the student dining experience, allowing them to craft unique recipes and explore new flavor profiles.
- Groundbreakers Wall is a display that showcases impactful leaders on campus, from student leaders to staff and faculty, spotlighting individuals and stories that shape the campus community.
- Campus Roots: Crafted to be the heart of campus life, the newly renovated Tiger Dining Hall invites students to savor flavors that honor tradition while embracing innovation.
“I’m very excited to be here at TSU, bringing quality cuisine and food. Students work so hard, and I think it’s important as their dining provider to match their efforts.” – Tyler McNeely, Campus Executive Chef at Texas Southern University.
“We are excited about the innovations and new experiences our students will enjoy through this partnership with Chartwells,” added Yvette Barker, Associate Vice President for Student Affairs. “It is always our goal to combine great taste with great service. Chartwells has tapped into the university’s history and brand to create an opportunity for our students to learn about the university while they dine.”
As part of the partnership, Chartwells also launched Heritage Kitchen, a catering team dedicated to crafting the perfect menu for events of any size. Accommodating any theme, budget, or specific requirements, Heritage Kitchen ensures memorable, personalized gatherings.
