Texas Southern Dominates With 3-0 Over St. Thomas

Lady Tigers Secure 3–0 Victory at Durley Field

Texas Southern Women’s Soccer closed out its five-game homestand with a 3–0 victory over the University of St. Thomas (TX) on Sunday evening at Durley Field. With just 75 fans in attendance, the Lady Tigers made Senior Night one to remember, delivering a performance that sets the tone as they head into conference play.

The action kicked off early, as Jacelyn Russ scored the first goal in the 11th minute, and her first goal of the season. The strike came off a well-placed assist from midfielder Melissa Knutson, giving TSU the early momentum.

Texas Southern maintained control throughout the match, dominating possession and pace. In the second half, the lead was extended when Kaia Butler achieved a second goal in the 56th minute, finishing a fluid attacking sequence set up by Liliane Clase Baez and Savannah Muldrew.

Just over ten minutes later, Ava Magana sealed the win with an unassisted strike in the 67th minute. Defensively, the Lady Tigers stayed sharp. Goalkeeper Alessandra Bastidas recorded five saves.

“We’re a really good team, and we stick with most of our opponents,” said Butler post game. This victory promises to give them more excitement to finish the season.

Senior Night Celebration

The evening also served as a celebration of the Texas Southern senior class, who were honored prior to kickoff for their dedication and leadership throughout their program.

“We played a different formation today, which allows us to be comfortable in different setups as we head into conference,” said Head Coach Danesha Adams about their first real win of the season. “This group is just so excited to start the conference and try to defend that title.”

With this “good momentum”, as Coach Adams said, Texas Southern is ready to hit the road for four straight games, beginning with a matchup against Jackson State on October 3 at 3 p.m. in Jackson, Mississippi.
