STEM Freshmen Begin FreshSTART Program at Texas Southern University

STEM students at Texas Southern University are kicking off their college journey through the university’s FreshSTART Summer Bridge Program, designed to prepare first-year students for academic success in science, technology, engineering, and math fields.
Now underway, the FreshSTART program offers participating freshmen a head start on their coursework while helping them adjust to college life before the fall semester begins. The initiative connects students with peer mentors, professors, and advisors, providing a supportive environment focused on building a strong foundation in STEM education.
Through FreshSTART, students benefit from early access to academic resources, targeted instruction, and hands-on guidance to help them transition smoothly into rigorous college-level STEM programs.
The program offers:
- $3,000 stipend + 6 weeks of housing
- Textbooks for 1st semester
- Academic instruction in key STEM subjects
- Data science training + capstone research project presented to US Navy Leadership
- $500 relocation stipend if you live 50+ mi away
