Sneha John: Shaping the Future of Pharmacy
As part of American Pharmacists Month, Texas Southern University continues celebrating the journey and formation of pharmacists, who will transform healthcare. We interviewed Sneha John, one of our dedicated fourth-year pharmacy students, whose academic journey reflects her desire to keep growing, learning and positively impacting healthcare.
Currently in her final year of the Doctor of Pharmacy program, Sneha brings a wealth of experience from retail pharmacy and is now expanding her focus into specialty settings, including pediatrics and clinical training. Her path to pharmacy was shaped by a unique blend of personal inspiration and professional mentorship.
Her Journey at Texas Southern University
“I was drawn to Texas Southern University because of its commitment to diversity, community service, and producing leaders who are both compassionate and empowering,” she shared. “The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences stood out for its rigorous didactic courses which makes their students strong clinically, emphasis on patient-centered care, and strong alumni network that is actively shaping healthcare in Houston and beyond.”
Sneha’s path in Texas Southern has been marked by community involvement within her practice experiences. Assisting in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Internal Medicine had challenged her to “apply knowledge in real time while considering both the science and the humanity of patient care,” she explained.
She has embraced each experience as a chance to grow as both a clinician pharmacist and a leader.
“The best part has been the community. From classmates who turned into family, to faculty who genuinely invest in our growth,” she said. By being involved in student organizations, Sneha has built strong connections, as well as outstanding skills —contributing to the Texas Southern University community.
Despite the demands of pharmacy school, she’s navigated personal and academic challenges with resilience. Sneha also credits Texas Southern’s College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences with providing the guide and tools needed to succeed.
Looking ahead
“My ultimate goal is to complete a pharmacy residency, specialize in pediatrics and eventually serve as both a clinical pharmacist and a mentor to future pharmacy students,” Sneha shared with us.
Her deep understanding of advocacy is reflected in her commitment to excellence in clinical practice, with a focus on improving patient outcomes and advancing health equity.
“What excites me most is the expanding role of pharmacists as frontline providers in precision medicine, ambulatory care, and public health,” she explained.
As pharmacy develops rapidly, “The integration of technology, telehealth, and advanced clinical services means pharmacists are more essential than ever. I’m excited to be part of a profession that is constantly evolving to better serve patients.”
If You Could Give Students One Piece of Advice…
To students considering a pharmacy education at Texas Southern, her advice is clear: “Take advantage of every opportunity,” and be proactive. “Get involved in professional organizations, connect with faculty, and seek out rotations or projects that challenge you. Most importantly, remember that pharmacy is more than a career—it’s a calling to serve.”
As we continue to celebrate American Pharmacists Month, Sneha John’s inspiring journey is just one of many stories showcasing the passion, dedication, and impact of our future pharmacists at Texas Southern University. Throughout October, we will be sharing more stories from the students, graduates, and faculty who are shaping the future of healthcare through pharmacy at Texas Southern University.
