Men’s Golf Earns NCAA Academic Recognition

For the first time in program history, the TSU men’s golf team has earned a Public Recognition Award from the NCAA for achieving a perfect multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) score.
Under head coach Willie Shankle, the team posted a flawless 1,000 APR—setting a new benchmark for academic achievement in the program. Shankle now holds the top two APR records in TSU men’s golf history.
They weren’t alone. Three TSU teams—men’s golf, women’s golf, and bowling—surpassed the 990 mark, while five teams reached a perfect 1,000 for the 2023–24 APR cycle, including women’s basketball and volleyball.
APR scores are based on eligibility, graduation, and retention, serving as a key indicator of a team’s academic strength. TSU’s strong showing highlights the dedication of its student-athletes and the support behind them.
“These scores reflect not only the hard work of our student-athletes, but also the tireless efforts of our Academic Staff,” said Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Kevin Granger. “It’s a win for the entire department.”
