Career Dreams Get a Jumpstart at Texas Southern’s Summer STEM Camp

Texas Southern University (TSU), in partnership with Verizon and the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE), hosted the Verizon Innovative Learning STEM Achievers program — a free, immersive STEM education experience for nearly 200 middle school students (rising 6th to 8th graders).
This project-based, hands-on summer initiative is designed to empower students in under-resourced communities by providing access to cutting-edge technology, mentorship, and real-world STEM experiences. The program cultivates problem-solving, design thinking, and collaboration through engaging topics like:
- 3D printing
- Augmented reality (AR)
- Social entrepreneurship
- STEM career exploration
As part of Citizen Verizon, the company’s responsible business plan for advancing digital inclusion, the STEM Achievers program helps break down barriers to education by expanding opportunities for youth in underserved areas.
Students gained valuable exposure to future careers in science, technology, engineering, and math while developing critical skills in innovation and leadership.
